A Sunday morning worship experience at Centre is uplifting and traditional. We invite everyone to join us as we serve Christ through worship, spiritual growth and fellowship. Click here for more information about our worship service.
In additional to our weekly Sunday morning service, we also have several special services throughout the year.
Maundy Thursday. Each year we gather to remember our Lord’s final meal with his disciples, where the Lord’s Supper was first instituted. At Centre, we each bring a pot of our favorite soup to add to the supplied bread and drink. We begin our meal with prayer and conclude our time together by celebrating the Lord’s Supper seated at our dinner table.
Easter Sunrise. On Easter Sunday around sunrise, we gather on the lawn between the church and the manse, facing the cemetery to proclaim with joy and wonder that the Lord is risen, indeed! Following this outdoor worship service, we gather in the small dining room for coffee, donuts, and assorted breakfast casseroles. Informal dress is welcome – come prepared for the morning chill.
Children’s Day. The first Sunday in June is set aside to celebrate and honor the accomplishments of our youth. Each year, we provide Bibles to our rising fourth graders, and recognize those graduating from high school and college. The worship service is lead by our young people, who are a vital part of Centre Presbyterian Church.
Outdoor Service. It is an annual tradition to hold and outdoor worship service on the second Sunday in July each year. We always celebrate the Lord’s Supper as part of our outdoor service, and follow worship with a pot luck picnic held in our pavilion.
Anniversary Service. On the Sunday following the Centre Community Picnic (The 3rd Saturday in August each year), we celebrate the founding of Centre Church by celebrating the Lord’s Supper and remembering the generations that have worshiped here throughout the years.
Presbyterian Women/United Thank Offering Service. Our Presbyterian Women’s group designs and leads the worship service where the United Thank Offering is collected. This special offering has supported a variety of worthwhile ministries over the years. Centre has been blessed by the leadership of Jane Hower, who routinely offers a dramatic portrayal of a woman from the Bible as a homily/sermon for this service.
Longest Night. For those who have experienced grief and loss, the Christmas season can be especially difficult. This contemplative service offers a safe space to remember loved ones and lament the losses that are part of life. Quiet music, readings from scripture and other sources, as well as an opportunity to publicly acknowledge your loss, if you choose, are part of this worship experience.
Barn Service. What better place to remember Jesus’ birth than in a barn? Come gather at the Neely’s barn, amid horses, dogs, cats, and sometimes pigs and cows, and celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior. Dress to withstand the midwinter chill and the barn environment. We’ll hear the Christmas story from Luke, sing carols, and experience the wide-eyed wonder of our children as we wonder anew that Jesus came to earth in such lowly conditions. The service usually begins at 6:00 and lasts about 45 – 50 minutes.
Christmas Eve. A traditional candlelight service including the celebration of the Lord’s Supper marks our annual Christmas Eve worship which begins at 7:30 PM. Festive carols, seasonal scripture readings, and an anthem performed by the adult choir are just some of the highlights of this very special worship service.
